Barossa Valley Map: Towns, Wineries and Where Every Tour Starts

The Barossa is a spread of small towns, not one place, and the tours start in seven different spots. A day that looks close can begin an hour away. Choosing between Barossa Valley wine tasting tours? Find the start before you book.

The Barossa at a glance

The valley lies about an hour's drive north-east of Adelaide, and 76 km from Adelaide Airport. Tourism Australia counts more than 150 wineries and 80 cellar doors across it. Wine Australia groups the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, to the east, into one Barossa zone.

You do not need to learn the whole map. Know where you sleep, where your day starts, and which town your chosen estates are in.

The towns, south to north

Coming from Adelaide, you reach the southern end first. The towns below run roughly in the order you meet them.

1. Lyndoch: the southern end, first on the road from Adelaide; Kies Family Wines is here.
2. Tanunda: the middle of the valley, with Chateau Tanunda and the Barossa Visitor Centre.
3. Bethany: a small village beside Tanunda, driven through on the Barossa accommodation days.
4. Seppeltsfield and Greenock: the western side, reached along Seppeltsfield Road.
5. Nuriootpa: the north, with Maggie Beer's Farm Shop and the trike and Mustang start.
6. Angaston: the eastern edge towards Eden Valley, with Yalumba and the Saturday market.

Where each tour starts

Check the first column against where you are staying. Adelaide days collect you in the city or Glenelg; Barossa days expect you in the valley already.

In Adelaide, the fixed point is Stamford Plaza at 150 North Terrace, where the hop-on hop-off bus leaves at 9:30 and comes back about 17:30. Most guided days instead collect you from your own address in the city or Glenelg, and the Small Batch days from about 9:15. Staying at the beach in Glenelg adds time on the road, so ask for your pickup time when you book.

Inside the valley, the starts are spread out. The hop-on hop-off bus collects at the Barossa Visitor Centre in Tanunda at 10:50. The Valley Wine Tours days collect you from your Barossa accommodation at 10:00. The trike and Mustang rides start on Tanunda Road in Nuriootpa or at your hotel, and the e-bike day starts at the Yalumba cellar door in Angaston at 9:00.

These are the estates whose town is known from their own address or the tour itinerary.

Reading a tour route on the map

Most itineraries work one side of the valley, then cross it for lunch. The day with a platter lunch and chocolate starts at Kies Family Wines in Lyndoch, moves up to Chateau Tanunda, and ends on the Avenue of Palms near Seppeltsfield. The private day from Adelaide climbs to Mengler's Hill Lookout, tastes at Yalumba in Angaston, and has lunch at FINO at Seppeltsfield on the western side.

The days from Barossa accommodation start at Chateau Tanunda, pass through Bethany, and drive past Seppeltsfield later in the day. The e-bike day starts and ends at Yalumba in Angaston, so you never need a car.

If you drive yourself, copy that shape. Group the estates by town, keep the longest drive for before the first tasting, and let someone who is not tasting take the wheel.

Hahndorf and Adelaide on the same map
